Meet the Officers

There are five officers in the Cal Poly Society of Physics Students. We take care of h-bar, organize events, and maintain the behind the scene things for SPS. If you have any suggestions, questions, concerns, or insight please let us know at CalPolySPS@gmail.com

Angie Davidson - SPS President

Hi everyone!  I grew up in Oregon and during my sophmore year in high school I took my first physics class and loved it.  Now I am in my fifth year here at Poly, I know a little more about Physics, have many more questions, and still love physics.  I spent two of my summers working as an engineer with the NYC DOT and one summer working with Cal Poly faculty doing research.  I plan on graduating in June 08 and at some point going to grad school to focus my studies on optics.  Do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do ~ Angie

You are welcome to contact me at ALDavids@calpoly.edu

Alison Goodsell - SPS Officer

I'm a third year physics major and math minor from the Bay Area.  Since my junior year of high school I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in physics.  I've done research at Cal Poly on astronomy after my freshman year and an REU (Research Experience for Undergrads) at Dartmouth this past summer on nanotechnology.  I'm also interested in science writing. Depending on my research schedule, I hope to graduate either late 2009 or 2010.  After that, I guess we'll see.  I want to attend graduate school and do more internships.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions on research opportunities here or at other universities. I also know a few of the physics profs - so if you want to do research here, I'll introduce you! And come by h-bar anytime!  As the upper division courses get tougher, h-bar is a great resource for physics students.

See you around!

Derek Smith - SPS Officer

I am an nth year senior here at Cal Poly.  I transfered to Cal Poly after attending the University of Washington in Seattle and Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, CA.  Since coming to Cal Poly I have had opportunities and experiences I thought I would never experience until I was a grad student or more.  I plan on graduating in June of 2008 with hopes of pursuing a graduate degree in Astrophysics.

See you around!
